Screen Names vs. Real Names

I've decided to change my name.  No, I'm not getting married or having a sex change operation.  I've noticed that on the comments of many blogs, real names appear more times than not over screen names.  So, I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

And really, what's so wrong with sharing my real name? Heck. It's on my facebook page, so why not? Right?

Hi, I'm LaShaune - pleased to meet ya!

Nice to meet you too! I'm Mary. Or Merry. Don't care how you spell it so long as you pronounce it right.

I once met a woman whom I'd been chatting with on a blog. When we met face to face, I asked her what her first name was. She drew back as if I'd asked for her social security number and PIN number. "I'd rather not say," she huffed.

Honestly, I didn't think it was that rude a thing to ask a person. It's the sort of thing I'd ask if I were at a party. (Hmmmn.... maybe that's why I don't get asked to too many parties?)

Pleasure to meet you, LaShaune!

Thanks Karen. I hope you are feeling better

Mary aka Merry (I like both versions) - that's insane to deny giving your name to someone you meet face to face (except at bar, club, etc - that's where bar names come in handy).
