Monday Bitch

There are only a few bitchy items on my list today:

1. When the heck did grown women start wearing bows in their hair like 3-year old girls?

2. Why do black women still insist on wearing weave that is not even close to a natural hair color?

3. Why do the people in my hood refuse to use the gas pedal?

And lastly,

4. Why the heck are newscasters threating snow in Houston, AGAIN!?

Where has the year gone?

February is almost over. Can you believe it? It's almost March and I'm still wearing boots, gloves, coats, and the heating bill is sitll high - UGH....come on Spring.

Well, I took stock of my spending these past two weeks (to include my V-day spending) and I think I am ok. I received payment on BOTH side jobs (yeah, suckie client came through with payment in full, FINALLY) and I received a check for my consignments (woo hoo!) so I was able to pay on the money borrowed for school (yeah), put a little in savings and of course, I spent some:

1. Gifts: $85 (includes V-day gift for The Fella and steam mop (gift for my house))
2. Eating out: $55
3. Clothing: $33 (a pair of shoes and a gym bag)
4. Parking: $12 (1 day) - I know that's highway robbery but I needed to get in to work early to take care of some things.  Also, I will get reimbursed for 2 days of parking earlier in the month.

All in all, my spending over two weeks totaled: $185 and I have money in the bank between pay periods - YEAH!

So Action Plan for this coming pay period:

1. Use budget sheet (check - already updated for the rest of the year and already filled in for this paycheck).
2. Cancel parking contract for the train (I am taking the bus from the transit center right near my house so I don't have to drive far and parking is free).
3. Make an appointment for March consignment.
4. Start writing down what I spend money on (it's difficult to remember where all these pennies go).

I think my baby steps are finally starting to pay off.

Administrative Issues

Lately, it appears that I am being asked to schedule a good number of meetings that include my boss, but he is not the actual person requesting or hosting the meeting.  The first, maybe even the second time, it was no big deal.  So why are my feathers getting now?  Because these "hosts" have assistants of their own who are just as capable of scheduling a meeting, especially when the host decides at the last minute to add additional folks (who I've already checked with and aren't available). Contrary to the popular belief that I can make miracles appear out my rear end, I can't. I'm not the most flexible person in the world and get a lot snarky when outside influences attempt to disrupt my schedule.

So how do you handle such a situation? Do you push this back onto the host's assistant and let her schedule? Or do you go back to the original party, include the new editions and start the scheduling process all over again?

My quick fix answer is, invite the new editions to the already scheduled meeting.  If they can attend, awesome.  If they aren't "technically" essential or can be briefed after the meeting, then I leave it as it is scheduled.  If these new editions are essential, I will offer the option of conference call or look at alternate dates.  What I would really like to do is gently nudge it back to the host's assistant as it is now her problem of getting all these folks together in 1 room, but that's not being a true team player.

Changeling

Do you feel yourself changing?  Do you feel yourself outgrowing personality traits, clothes, shoes, thought patterns, fast driving?  Maybe it's the season (why do I have that song running through my head: Time of Season by the Zombies), maybe it's maturity trying to creep in, maybe it's just me - I dunno.  But I know it's time for change and today's events just solidified it.

I witnessed a horrible accident this morning (everyone is ok), but knowing that if I was going my normal rate of speed on the slick backroad (I usually try to clip it around 60mph, but not on rainy days) I would have been apart of the accident.  Umm yeah - no thanks. I've seen accidents after they've occurred and EMS/police are there - but to actually watch the events unfold in real time - that's freaky. So I'm slowing my ass down (although that won't necessarily guarantee I won't be in an accident).

I also received notice that a friend passed away in January due to metastatic breast cancer. This came on top of finding out that one of my fav doc's husband passed.  My heart is aching at the moment and I feel loss. I don't do well with death/dying - I don't think many people do (except maybe hospice nurses). I feel that life is becoming shorter and dwelling on negative issues is a big waste of time. Enjoy my true friends and family is what is really important.

This is welcomed change it's just worrisome that tragic events are making me realize it's time.

Screen Names vs. Real Names

I've decided to change my name.  No, I'm not getting married or having a sex change operation.  I've noticed that on the comments of many blogs, real names appear more times than not over screen names.  So, I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

And really, what's so wrong with sharing my real name? Heck. It's on my facebook page, so why not? Right?

Hi, I'm LaShaune - pleased to meet ya!

Toot Toot...ahh Beep Beep

Yep. I'm at it again. Tootin my own horn.  Why?  Why am I so obnoxious about spreading what's so great about me?  Hmmm, because.

1. I have lost 8.5 lbs since the start of 2010 (hot damn!). I may just reach my goal set, oh, about 2 YEARS AGO.  Only 12 more to go. I think I can do it.

2. I spent $27 on a yoga bag (impulse buy) and returned it! I also returned the crotch-cutter workout pants I bought last month (actually exchanged them). But I did purchase a sweatshirt because it's freaking cold here, still (darn groundhog - but at least it's not the Northeast) and my other sweatshirt is not warm enough after my evening workouts. $5 Plus, I bought some black wedges to wear. I realized all my casual shoes are sneakers and my other "non-work" shoes aren't very comfy to tromp around town in. $10

3. I listened to my inner self and those around me and stood my ground with a client who was trying to cheat me on an invoice.  Oh Hell No!  You WILL pay what you owe.  I will pick up full payment Friday!

4. An old client called last week. She has real estate and legal work to be done! Woo hoo. I love working with her because she always pays on time and usually tips over the invoice.

5. The Saints won the Superbowl (but the ads sucked!).  Yeah, I left midway through the 3rd quarter. Oh well, it was a decent game and I wasn't keen on either team. So goodie for the Saints. I did spend $45 on a mini-superbowl party for my fella and I. We had a good time so I don't feel bad about the money spent.

6. I am totally pulling off 90s era secretary today.  Short tweed skirt with black tights/black boots, black button down shirt, maroon tee. I should take a photo but no time and no camera. :(

Total $$ spent in February so far:

Parking: $48
Food out: $45
Clothing/shoes: $15

Yeah Yeah. I know. I need to curb that parking. But it was nasty wet last week, I had to meet with one of my clients and today I have a recruit here that I have escort around. And with the threat of more rain, I planned to drive him to the VA and then to the Children's Hospital.  So after today - no more parking at work.

Cardboard and Wood Shavings

Ever wonder who thought that power bars, protein bars, low-cal crackers, or other "healthy" foods such as one certain company's oatmeal always taste like cardboard mixed with wood shavings? Maybe this is reason that trying to eat healthy is a challenge for some.

I am officially done with protein bars and will give away my Kashi oatmeal.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy other Kashi produts (especially the pizzas), but their oatmeal was not a winner. It didn't help that my office is near our cafeteria and yesterday they were cooking up a storm of bacon. Ummm bacon...
